One Act Play Competition

2011 ONE ACT NEW PLAY COMPETITION NOW INCLUDES HIGH SCHOOL COMPETITION!


In addition to scripts from the University/Professional level playwrights, The Georgia Theatre Conference, the official theatre organization for the state of Georgia, is now taking submissions for its annual One Act New Play Competition in a separate category for high school-aged playwrights. The competition is open writers inside and outside of Georgia. The competition is open to writers inside and outside of Georgia. The winning play in the High School category will be awarded a $150.00 prize and a plaque at the annual GTC Convention, to be held this year in Statesboro, GA, October 12 - 15, 2011. Guidelines are listed below:

  • Entries will be accepted between January 15, 2011 and September 9, 2011.

  • One submission per playwright only. Play submissions must be one act in length. Full length scripts, ten-minute plays, children’s plays, adaptations, and musicals are not acceptable. Plays should be less than approximately 50 pages in length, running-time no longer than one hour, and limited to 10 or fewer characters.

  • Plays must be unproduced (no professional productions) and unpublished. Readings and workshops are acceptable.

  • Plays submitted in the Secondary School category must be submitted by the playwright, who – at the time of submission - has either not graduated from high school or is younger than 20 years of age. Entries may be submitted by playwrights through a faculty mentor, but NOT without the consent and knowledge of the playwright.

  • Plays may be submitted in either hard copy or by email attachment:

      • Text in 11-12 point type and in plain font (e.g. Times New Roman)

      • Script must include page numbers at the bottom of each page

      • The author’s name should not appear anywhere in the script, but the playwright’s full name, current address, telephone number(s), and email address should be included in the email or on a separate page

      • Please do not include resumes, playwright biographies, or history of the play

    • Hardcopy: One non-returnable copy with the playwright’s current address, telephone number(s), and email address. Do not include SASE. Do not include playwright information on the pages of the script.

    • Electronic: Email attachment in Microsoft Word or PDF format with the following guidelines:
